Savannah advises on all aspects of New Zealand income tax law. She has a strong interest in tax disputes and advocacy, and has assisted a number of taxpayers in obtaining binding and non-binding rulings from the IRD regarding a broad range of tax issues.  She also has experience advising on the tax aspects of corporate transactional and financing matters, including legal tax due diligence, structuring advice (including financial structuring), negotiating tax clauses (including warranty and indemnity insurance policy tax provisions), and advising on employee share scheme issues. 

In addition to the above, Savannah has significant experience advising high net worth clients regarding complex cross-border tax issues including tax residency, the application of New Zealand’s double tax agreements, conflict of laws issues, and the application of various domestic tax regimes impacting international investors.

Work highlights

IRD rulings
Liaising with the taxpayer rulings division of the Inland Revenue Department to obtain binding rulings, indicative views and special determinations for clients in relation to various issues including capital and revenue boundary issues and the application of New Zealand’s financial arrangements rules to a bespoke joint venture arrangement.
