Sam Dykes

Sam has acted for domestic and offshore financiers and borrowers including banks, institutional investors, private equity firms, sponsors and corporates. He is a well-respected lawyer who has demonstrated success across both banking and finance transactions and large aspects of corporate and commercial law.

Sam returned to New Zealand in 2020 following three years as a senior associate in Stibbe's banking and finance practice in Amsterdam. Prior to this he was a senior solicitor at a large New Zealand law firm where he completed secondments in Westpac banking group's institutional legal team and HSBC's legal team.

The Legal 500 Asia Pacific 2022 recommend Sam for banking and finance in New Zealand.

Vocus Group acquisition financing
Advised the lenders on the New Zealand financing arrangements for the acquisition of Vocus Group Limited by a consortium of Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets (MIRA) and superannuation fund Aware Super for AU$3.5 billion.

Tuatahi First Fibre financing
Advised Igneo Infrastructure Partners on all aspects of the debt funding arrangements to fund the acquisition of Tuatahi First Fibre (previously Ultrafast Fibre) for NZ$854 million, and Tuatahi First Fibre on its subsequent refinancing.

Mondiale Group financing
Advised the lenders on the New Zealand financing arrangements for Mondiale Group, including the financing for multiple acquisitions.

Tainui Property financing
Advised TGH Property in establishing a secured common terms structure which provides the group with flexibility to enter into a range of financing products.

Airport hotels
Advised JV borrowers on all aspects of their financing arrangements for the development of the Pullman Hotel and Novotel situated at Auckland airport.

Private hospital
Advised the lender on the financing arrangements to fund the development of a private hospital in Hawke’s Bay.
