Bell Gully has advised General Cable on a joint venture to develop a revolutionary high-temperature superconducting wire.
General Cable and Industrial Research Limited have agreed to jointly develop and commercialise a high-temperature superconducting wire for use as a component in AC power transformers, DC generators and large electrical motors.
The Bell Gully team, led by Wellington corporate partner Andrew Abernethy and including solicitor Jessie Parker, advised Christchurch-based General Cable on the joint venture agreement with New Zealand's Industrial Research Limited.
The joint venture places New Zealand at the forefront of the challenge to develop a superconductor with the potential to carry high electrical currents, lower energy losses and reduce maintenance requirements.
