New partner and senior associates in Bell Gully's latest promotions

A partner and seven new senior associates have been appointed in the latest promotions at Bell Gully.

Andrew Abernethy becomes the firm's latest partner. New York-qualified, he practises as part of Bell Gully's corporate group, principally in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, strategic counselling/corporate governance and private equity/venture capital.

His experience includes advising on international and domestic mergers and acquisitions, particularly cross-border transactions and a range of securities offerings. Andrew has also acted for both purchasers and sellers in acquisition and disposition transactions, including stock and asset sales, recapitalisations, restructurings, joint ventures, limited partnerships, and other structured solutions.

In Auckland seven new senior associates have been promoted:

Marija Batistich specialises in resource management and environmental law. She returned to New Zealand and joined Bell Gully in 2005 after five years working in resource management and related areas with leading London law firms.

Katie Carson is a banking and finance specialist.  She joined Bell Gully in 2005 after working as legal counsel to a large New Zealand corporate and financial institution and in the banking and finance team of another major New Zealand law firm.

Naomi Cervin is an employment lawyer experienced in advising on all aspects of the relationship between employer and employee. She has practised employment law in both New Zealand and Ireland for a number of years.

Davida Dunphy is a commercial property lawyer advising on complex property transactions and developments. She joined Bell Gully in 2004 after working with law firm Hammonds in the UK on commercial property projects.

Kevin Glover is a commercial litigator with particular expertise in intellectual property, media law and domain name disputes. He rejoined Bell Gully in 2005 after gaining a Master of Law at the University of Cambridge and practising at Ashurst in London, including a period of secondment to the UK legal team of a major European pharmaceutical company.

Louise Hill specialises in mergers and acquisitions, company restructurings, electricity law, and general business law advice. She joined Bell Gully in 2005 after working with a leading London law firm and in house with a components manufacturer in Japan.

Graeme Switzer is a corporate and commercial lawyer, specialising in mergers and acquisitions, company restructurings, securities offerings and general corporate and commercial law. Before joining Bell Gully in 2005, Graeme spent five years with notable commercial law firms in Wellington and Sydney.
