CLANZ-Bell Gully Scholarship and Prize winners for 2003

The winners of the Corporate Lawyers' Association (CLANZ)-Bell Gully Scholarship and Prize for in-house counsel and senior law students have been announced.

The winner of the CLANZ-Bell Gully Scholarship 2003 is Christine Turner, Environmental Manager for Telecom New Zealand based in Wellington. Christine receives a $5,000 scholarship package towards career development activities. Click here to read Christine's winning submission.

The winner of the CLANZ-Bell Gully Prize 2002 for senior law students is Sharon Kennedy, currently completing her third year of studies for an LLB at the University of Auckland. Sharon receives a $2,500 prize - click here to read her prize-winning essay.

A runners-up Prize was awarded to Philippa Hunt, a fifth-year student at the University of Otago, who received $500.

"The Scholarship and Prize is designed to support career development," said David Flacks, Bell Gully Partner and judging panel member, "This year's recipients were worthy winners in a tough contest."

  • Scholarship applicants submitted a paper on the tips, tools and techniques for developing an in-house compliance programme, while Prize applicants prepared submissions on maintaining a healthy workplace within the bounds of the new Health and Safety in Employment Act.

  • Entries were judged by a distinguished panel, comprising: Terence Arnold QC, Solicitor-General; Christine Grice, President of the New Zealand Law Society; Ronald Pol, President of CLANZ; Nic Short, General Counsel at Carter Holt Harvey and Vice-President CLANZ; and David Flacks, Partner, Bell Gully.
