Rachael specialises in public and administrative law issues and civil litigation.

Rachael has appeared as counsel in judicial review proceedings on various issues including Treaty of Waitangi settlement and fisheries issues. She has appeared on behalf of clients in the Privy Council, Court of Appeal, High Court, Maori Land Court and the Waitangi Tribunal.

Rachael has also represented clients in settlement negotiations with the Crown, provides advice regarding public and administrative law issues and advises clients on a range of other matters including statutory obligations and matters related to commercial transactions.

Acted for PHARMAC in judicial review proceedings seeking to challenge its decisions regarding the funding of the breast cancer drug, Herceptin.

District Health Boards
Acted for a District Health Board whose decision to award a laboratory services contract was challenged in judicial review proceedings. This matter was discontinued shortly before trial.

Treaty claims
Acted successfully for Nga Kaihautu o Te Arawa in a High Court trial concerning a fiduciary claim arising out of a Treaty settlement.

Mining
Acted successfully in High Court and Court of Appeal proceedings over mining legislation (Glenharrow Holdings Limited v Attorney-General and Te Runanga o Ngai Tahu).
