Murray leads the firm's national insolvency practice. His litigation and broader commercial expertise has been applied to the most significant insolvency matters in New Zealand in recent years.

Murray regularly acts for banks, receivers, liquidators and statutory managers. He regularly presents arguments in the High Court and Court of Appeal.

Murray currently acts for the receivers of a number of finance companies, including Bridgecorp and Nathans and has successfully brought recovery claims on their behalf.

An insolvency specialist with extensive knowledge and experience on all matters related to insolvency, Murray regularly speaks at specialist conferences and is a contributing author of Heath and Whale on Insolvency.

Earlier in his career, Murray spent three years with Clifford Chance in London, where he specialised in banking and insolvency litigation.

IFLR1000 2013 lists Murray as one of the leading lawyers for insolvency and restructuring, noting he is "well respected". The previous edition states that "Murray's talent is simply unmatched." Chambers Asia Pacific 2013 ranks him as a leading insolvency law expert and notes "he's nationally recognised as one of the strongest insolvency lawyers in the market". The previous edition states "his talents in this arena are widely acknowledged by other practitioners, whilst clients remark on his responsiveness and commercial outlook." Asia Pacific Legal 500 2012/2013 also names Murray as a leading individual in insolvency and restructuring.
