Ian leads the firm's litigation practice and specialises in commercial dispute resolution, particularly in intellectual property, competition law, international trade, insurance and public law.
A partner since 1997, Ian has many years of experience providing advice and advocacy in large, complex and often high profile cases, and a broad range of litigation matters. Ian regularly appears as counsel in the courts, and also has experience before other tribunals including arbitrations and Commissions of Inquiry.
His clients have included major corporations, banks, professional firms and governments, and he has considerable experience acting for English, US and Japanese clients at Bell Gully and earlier during his four years based in London. A number of international clients seek Ian’s ongoing advice and representation.
Chambers Global 2010 recognises Ian as a leading IP lawyer and commends his contentious work involving IP rights. In Chambers Global 2009 Ian is described as "widely respected for his IP work, particularly when it comes to commercial dispute resolution", and he is noted for his "significant reputation for litigation".
