S&P to start rating finance companies

Standard & Poor's has announced its intention to launch a new ratings scale to measure the relative financial strength of non-bank finance companies in New Zealand.

The decision comes in response to strong industry support and a significant number of companies being committed to undertaking and releasing a rating.

Standard & Poor's has said that the ratings scale and symbolism will be unique and tailored specifically for New Zealand finance companies, building societies, credit unions and mortgage trusts.
