Bell Gully is a partner company of the First Foundation Project which provides educational scholarships to help some of New Zealand's talented young people achieve their potential through tertiary education and mentoring. Some of our staff have volunteered to act as mentors in this programme. We provide work experience for First Foundation students in both our Auckland and Wellington offices.
Each year Bell Gully staff have their heads shaved and hair coloured as part of the Shave-for-a-Cure Challenge. The event raises tens of thousands of dollars for the work of The Leukaemia & Blood Foundation with patients, family and friends of those affected by leukaemia and related blood conditions.
Bell Gully is a strategic partner of the foundation supporting its work in breast cancer education and awareness. Partner Jane Holland is a member of the foundation's board.
Bell Gully's mentoring/partnership programme with Taita College in Lower Hutt was established in 2000. Some 20 young lawyers and staff are now involved. The programme has established itself as a key feature of the school.
Each year, the Bell Gully Mooting Competition enables law students to research legal issues and to test and develop their skills in a courtroom setting. Bell Gully provides financial and practical assistance throughout the competition, providing judges and mooting problems and supporting the New Zealand champions to attend the Jessup Mooting Competition in the US.
Pro bono work for number of organisations each year including Plunket, the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation, Parents Inc, the Australia and New Zealand Intensive Care Foundation, the Arthritis Foundation and the Louise Perkins Foundation which supports people with cancer.
