Acting for the receivers of a number of finance companies on litigation matters, including in respect of Bridgecorp Finance in bringing recovery claims against the company's directors.
Wall Group Limited
Advising the major creditors of Wall Group Limited (previously Pacific Retail Group Limited) in relation to a compromise proposal made by the directors of Wall Group. The total value of claims was $90 million.
South Pacific Shipping Limited
We acted as counsel for liquidators on the largest successful reckless trading claim against the director of South Pacific Shipping Limited. The High Court order that a company director should pay over NZ$8.4 million to the company's liquidators, a ruling that was also upheld by the Court of Appeal.
National Finance 2000 Limited (In Receivership) and Payless Cars group
We acted for the receivers, PricewaterhouseCoopers, of a finance company appointed under a debenture trust deed and for a related car sales group in this NZ$30 million receivership.

International Investment Unit Trust (In Statutory Management)
Acting for the statutory managers, we issued proceedings in New Zealand, England, Denmark and Switzerland to freeze and recover funds totalling NZ$30 million, on behalf of investors. The case involves a fraudulent investment scheme where investors were offered high rates of returns but no income earned by the Trust.
Henry Walker Eltin Pty Limited (Administrators Appointed)
We acted for the Australian-appointed administrators of HWE in relation to significant New Zealand assets, successfully bringing proceedings against Solid Energy to restrain it from terminating the contract to extract coal from the Rotowaro Mine. This was the first major transaction involving voluntary administrators being appointed in Australia which extended to NZ-based business interests. NZ$400 million.
CH Limited (In Statutory Management)
We acted for statutory managers in bringing proceedings in the High Court and Court of Appeal to determine the priority of original homeowners for homes involved in this buy back scheme. The High Court determined that the scheme was fraudulent. The Court of Appeal hearing is scheduled for July 2007. Value: NZ$2 million.
