Our Work

Governor of Pitcairn
We are acting for the Governor of Pitcairn Island in an employment case arising from the high profile sexual abuse prosecutions against numerous men on the small Pacific Island.  We appeared largely successfully for our client in both the Employment Relations Authority and the Employment Court. The case will be heard in the Court of Appeal in March to consider the complicated legal question of the extent to which regard should be given to the subsequently discovered, and incriminating, evidence.

FIFPro
We advise the worldwide representative organisation for all professional football players on promoting the establishment of trade unions for players in China, South Korea and Singapore.

Carter Holt Harvey
We advise Carter Holt Harvey - the biggest industrial employer in New Zealand - on a wide range of employment issues including restructuring, union issues and employment disputes. We advised on all the employment aspects relating to the sale of its Building Supplies Group and the sale of its forestry business.

Lyttelton Port Company
We advise Lyttelton Port Company on collective bargaining issues. Previously we have advised on restructuring issues and successfully defended the company against various union claims. We appeared on the company's behalf at related court hearings in 2005-06.

Independent Liquor (NZ)
We acted for Independent Liquor (NZ) in successfully defending a union court claim for increased right of entry to the client's facility, one of the few access cases which has been won by an employer in recent years.

Department of Corrections
We advised on threatened strike action in New Zealand's prisons in early 2006 and obtaining an interim injunction.

Rank Group Limited's sale of NZ Dairy Foods
We advised Rank Group on the employment aspects of the sale of NZ Dairy Foods to Fonterra Co-operative Group Limited.
